FORUM NAME:  Hugh Jars

Name:  William Barfoot

Club:  Irene

Age:  32

Running history:

Although I kept myself semi-fit through sports like soccer,

rugby and cricket, fitness was never a key factor in my life.

I managed some gym work, mostly fitness.

Then one day someone challenged me to run the 32km Tough One.

Thank you Bennet, I haven’t stopped running since!

(Okay, except for the walk I had on the last 20km of Comrades last year!)

Short term goals:

The sub-40 mark on a standard 10k still eludes me.

I have never been much of a sprinter, so that time has always gotten the better of me.  Hopefully not for too much longer.

A sub 3:20 Sydney Marathon would go down very well thank you!!

This year has been an awesome year for running, totally injury-free and with no time pressures.  Being on the road has been exhilarating for the most part.

It would be grand if I could have many more years of running like 2007.

Long term goals:

I would love to still be running at age 60 and over.

Other long term goals include permanent numbers for Comrades,

Two Oceans and Soweto.
