Running
history:
In
2000 with that huge hype around Comrades (24 000 people) ,
my friend and his girlfriend started running and training for Comrades.
I decided to join them on their runs. We trained for about a month
before I convinced them to do our first race. It was a 10km night race
in Valhala in Pretoria. I was almost dead. We continued running and
eventually went through all the race distances until we qualified for
Comrades at Deloitte and Touche marathon. I wasn't planning on doing
Comrades, but friends convinced me to enter before the entries close,
just for in case I later decide to do it. I entered and was later
convinced to do it.
I
finished Comrades that year and since then I
haven't stopped running.
This year was my most difficult year so far. After 7 years of running I
seemed to have lost interest. I battled in my races but continued to
train just so that I could still do Oceans and Comrades. (I was so
clever to have booked airline tickets 8 months in advance and I did not
wanted to waste them). It was only after Comrades that I really started
to enjoy my running again. Now, I just can't get enough of it.
