Running
history:
I started my
running career in 1995 (Standard 5) when I just decided on running a 10km
race “because they gave out medals”.
I almost died, I
think the spitting of blood can testify for that.
From there, I think the bug bit me, and often ran 10km races.
Slowly moved
onto 15km races as and eventually, my first 21km race.
That was also my last race before I stopped running
for a good 3
years due to commitments to church, cellgroups etc …(ok, and laziness).
June 16th
was my favourite day. Comrades
day!!! My family knew that the tv belonged to me for that day.
Comrades was ALWAYS a lifelong dream for me.
After watching
Comrades again in 2005, I decided that I must do something about my dream,
and I started training the very next day.
Joined the
running club again, and got more involved with them this time around.
Gradually got into the running scene again, 10kms, 15kms, and
eventually a 21km again. Due
to peer pressure,
I entered for my
first 32km race in 2005. RAC TOUGH ONE!!!!
2006 did my
first ever 42.2kms (Vaal + Jacky Gibson), and 50kms (Om die dam, Loskop).
Training went well, and I entered for the Comrades Marathon, which
I finished in a comfortable 10:24.
2007 was
a great running year so far, achieving PBs on ALL the distances,
and did some great races like Two Oceans 56km, Longtom 56km, Deloitte
42.2km.
The last month
before Comrades ’07 didn’t go so well, and just a finish would’ve
been enough for me. Really
surprised myself by running 9:22:34 !!!! Praise God for that!!!

Started
pace-setting this year as well, to bring some excitement into my running.
Mainly driving the sub2hour busses on half marathons.
My goals for the
year ahead. Firstly, to go under sub 16mins for the local 4km TT, sub
40min 10km, sub 95min half marathon, sub 3:30 marathon ……… and …….. Bill Rowen at next years Comrades!!!!
……..
mmmmmm, but have to get back on the road first after a long
rest……
