Running
history:
I started running again after a 23 year
layoff (that's correct, I stopped running for 23 years when our daughter was
born). Only in April 2006,when Clayton and Nunks said that they wanted to start running did we decide to do it
together.
Two days later Clayton(our
Son) and myself ran the Jackie Gibson 42.Big wake upcall..just managed to complete the race.
After that ,we decided to do as many races as we could...up and down to PTA and the rest of the country became the norm for us and before we knew it our times were
down. I mainly focused on 10's and 15's with the occasional 21.Sadly I knew that with all this racing I would get
injured, cause I was like a little child. Back in the day I was running good
times, and I wanted to get back to those. But, age was a major factor.
In early July I picked up a groin injury but still managed to run a decent some decent
times. I knew I had to lay off running for a good 6-8 weeks. Man after 3 days I was bored and frustrated and whilst surfing the
net, I came across the Donkeys Pass Mountain Challenge....and I started training.
Then the day came (I ran the donkeys with the groin injury worse than before and managed to complete it in a respectable time of
3hrs30min).
After this one, I
genuinely rested and my first real run afterwards was the RAC TOUGH ONE.
Jan 2007 came and it was then that I made up my mind to go all out this year. I
competed in track and ran some very good races (10000m,1500m,and 800m),
lowest placing 3rd,highest 1st. I also competed in the Cross Country league where my lowest placing was
12th. At the beginning of the year, I was challenged with running this years
comrades (last ran it in 1985).
I accepted and started real L.S.D at the beginning of April.
